Join the Fight to End Corruption in Arizona
Background
In 2018, RepresentUs members around the country helped pass 23 transformative anti-corruption reforms—that’s more than any other point in history. These campaigns have succeeded in large part because of the work RepresentUs members around the country have done—and this is your chance to get involved.
At this event, you’ll hear about the story in Arizona, where RepresentUs members helped to pass Tempe’s Prop 403, “Keep Dark Money Out of Tempe Elections.” This law would’ve brought much-needed transparency to Arizona elections.
However, special interest groups, eager to keep their grasp on power in AZ, lobbied and persuaded State legislators to quickly introduce and pass HB2153. This amended the Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) to nullify the very proposition voters had approved to kick dark money out of their government.
This blatant attempt to undo the will of the voters prompted Former Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard (D) to found Outlaw Dirty Money in 2018. He recruited fellow Former Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne (R) to co-chair his non-partisan efforts. Their grassroots team began a campaign to revise the State Constitution to undo the legislature’s HB2153 and bring Arizona the transparency voters deserve.
Join us in speaking with former AG Terry Goddard and Represent Phoenix Chapter leader Carl Parrish about what this means and how to get involved to ensure Arizona represents the people, not special interests and lobbyists.
